ALTAB Bacchus who the Police say is the errant driver in the fatal accident at Mahaicony Public road last Friday should have turned himself in to police authorities yesterday. But up to afternoon he had not. Information reaching the Guyana Chronicle newspaper, says the man had made contact with the police in ‘C’ Division through his lawyer. And according to the same sources close to Bacchus he had admitted to family members that he was in an accident and he had left the scene.
The wanted man also reportedly stated that he was not aware that someone had died in the accident and had he known, he would not have left the scene. A relative reportedly advised Bacchus to make contact with an attorney after he had expressed a fear about turning himself in.
Police Divisional Commander for ‘C’ Division Marlon Chapman yesterday stated that he had received information from his ranks that the errant driver was expected to turn himself over to them in the company of lawyer but that had not been done.
Meanwhile the other driver who was taken into custody on Saturday was up to noon yesterday still in the custody of the police although the cops in that division were making preparations to have him placed on station bail.
Yesterday the postmortem performed on the dead mother of seven, Irene Ramsey, revealed that she died as a result of multiple injuries.
On Saturday two motorcars collided along the Mahaicony Public Road when one of them ended up in the path of the other. One driver fled the scene even as the victims of the accident lay helplessly on the road.
Two of the other injured persons are said to be hospitalised.
