Defendant gave me phone – girlfriend

A 22-YEAR-old Tucville resident accused of phone theft at knife point was yesterday released on $150,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after the court heard that police had traced the stolen phone to a girlfriend.Damion Robertson of Lot 226 D Field, South Tucville, was accused of being armed with a knife on February 27 at Bell Air Park, Georgetown and robbing Andrew Degrella of a Samsung Galaxy cellular phone valued $85,000. Robertson pleaded not guilty to the charge.
However Corporal Deniro Jones, prosecuting the matter, objected to the accused being granted his pre-trial liberty citing the gravity and the penalty attached to the charge. Additionally, according to Jones, the accused was positivity pointed out by Degrella as the robber who had walked up to him and placed a knife alongside his body, demanding his phone. During an identification parade the ‘girlfriend’ told the Police that she had gotten the phone from the defendant.
The Chief Magistrate however granted the robbery accused bail and ordered him to return to court on December 15 for statements.
