THE Region 6 Regional, Democratic Council on Thursday passed a no confidence motion against Regional Executive Officer Dr Veerasammy Ramayya at their statutory sitting at the Regional Administrative Complex, Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam, Berbice.0404The motion was tabled through former Alliance For Change member Mr Haseef Yusuf, and got full support from the 15 councillors representing the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic. The coalition now headed by Ms Donna Mathoo , voted against the motion, but the nine members were insufficient to throw out the proposal. Ramayya, was absent as he was summoned to attend the Commission of Inquiry into the Public Service, being held in Berbice currently.
In his presentation, Yusuf noted that the Office of the Regional Executive Officer is very important, in the administration and requires a highly qualified and skilled person. He noted that the post was advertised in the daily newspapers and the previously served Regional Executive Officers had met the prescribed requirements. ‘…whereas, the Regional Executive Officer Mr V. Ramayya does not possess even the minimum prerequisite academic qualifications and experience for the post and is purely a political appointment.” Further, Yusuf said Ramayya is a pensioner and has no experience or background in accounting, management or finance which are necessary to function in the post.
