OVERSEAS-based Guyanese driver Calvin Ming has lauded the obvious excitement and challenge that the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City poses and has vowed to return there again in the near future.Ming, who was on debut, finished fourth overall at Sunday’s Formula 4 debut race, narrowly missing the podium, after he had qualified 7th overall on Saturday, having encountered some late difficulties.
On Sunday, after having a bobble on the start, Ming fell 2 positions down the straightway to 9th on the first lap but recovered well after that, putting his head down and using all the skills learnt during training
Speaking to Chronicle Sport, Ming said, “It (the race) was a little difficult since I had just put in new brake pads in the morning before the race, because during qualifying the others failed.”
“Coming down to the final lap a safety car was deployed because a car had spun on track and everyone was grouped up. I restarted in 4th position,” he continued.
After the restart he got to third and unfortunately was overtaken because of the draft and, according to Ming, he didn’t block because the radio had failed and he was not aware that it was final lap.
Commenting on the experience, the overseas-based Guyanese said, “The race was pretty intense and I was able to learn a lot more being the first time I’m in a winged open-seated car race. I will definitely keep up the momentum and keep pushing for more and hopefully next race be on the podium.”
“It would not have been possible without all the help from my team in Mexico, my family, sponsors and also all of my supporters. Also many thanks to the Mexican crowd for being a great audience and great support,” he continued
Ming said the Autodromo is definitely a track that he will be looking forward to racing on again.
