Police make breakthrough in major criminal investigations

THE Guyana Police Force yesterday reported being able to nab three primary suspects in the murder of one Akeem Yorrick of Plaisance Squatting Area, which occurred on August 1st of this year.

The release from the law enforcement body detailed that ‘C’ Division police are now breathing a sigh of relief, after nabbing the suspects.A police press release also reported that its ranks were already able to secure legal advice in the matter from the Director of Public Prosecution.

Additionally, the police reported success in arresting two other persons who were part of a three-man gang that reportedly robbed Mahaica resident Gansham Jorie and two family members of a motor car, cash, jewellery, and other items on October 29 last. The suspects have been positively identified during an identification parade, and the vehicle which the suspects had stolen has also been recovered by the police, along with some amount of the booty they had taken. Charges are expected to be laid shortly.

In another GPF release, police claim that, acting on intelligence, they conducted a joint operation in a section of the city and were able to nab one of the most evasive suspects, a person wanted for questioning in the murder of Sanasie Lewis, who was gunned down in September while at a bar in Albouystown. This suspect is also wanted for a series of armed robberies and other violent crimes.

The man remains in custody even as the police continue investigating the matter.

‘D’ Division police have also been able to dismantle a criminal networking gang that operated in Region 3, and police remain on the hunt for three other armed men who robbed and injured two West Bank Demerara residents. The police release has said that investigations are ongoing.

Three masked men armed with handguns on Thursday evening entered the grocery shop of 25-year-old Mohabir Singh of First Street, Goed Fortuin West Bank Demerara, and gun-butted the young man to his head before escaping in a waiting vehicle with a quantity of cash. A customer on the premises at the time was also relieved of his mobile phone and approximately $20,000 in cash.

The police revealed that the community has a very vibrant policing group operating under the chairmanship of Mr. Vickram Vieira, but the group was unfortunately not out on patrol at the time of the robbery.

Crime sleuths in the division believe that the gang would be apprehended soon, since they are closing in on those suspects through diligent investigations.
