U.S. reaffirms pledge to work with local Judicial Sector – New Ambassador meets AG

THE United States stands ready to assist Guyana in its judicial sector reform, said U.S. Ambassador Perry Holloway as he recommitted his country’s support yesterday when he paid a courtesy call on Attorney General and Legal Affairs Minister Basil Williams.“We will do our part in providing technical assistance and our doors are opened for anything that the Attorney General needs,” Ambassador Holloway told members of the Media shortly after having a brief meeting with the Attorney General.

In response, the Attorney General noted that Guyana and the U.S. have shared a long and fruitful relationship, and Ambassador Holloway’s predecessors had played an integral role in the local government reform process. “We look forward to continued cooperation with the American Government through this new ambassador,” AG Williams added.

The U.S. Ambassador has paid courtesy calls on a number of high ranking officials since presenting his credentials to President David Granger on October 2, 2015. And recently he met with Finance Minister Winston Jordan and Speaker of the National Assembly Dr. Barton Scotland.

Ambassador Holloway, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counsellor, most recently served as Political-Military Counsellor at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan (2013 – July 2014).
