grass of our territory.”
He also declared that the New River Triangle belongs to Guyana and the matter was settled years ago, given that, “we now see Suriname as our friends and also partners given that they are a member of CARICOM.”
“Cheddi Jagan and Forbes Burnham fought for Guyana’s sovereignty, but now, however, we are being tackled from all sides,” said Atwell.
In that light, Atwell is calling on all Guyanese to come out and support their movement.
Meanwhile, he alluded to Venezuela’s claim to the western Essequibo and its recent decree claiming sovereignty over Guyana’s territorial waters in the Atlantic Ocean off the Essequibo region could have sparked this, but “we are resolute people and the 83,000 square miles will remain ours as none of it is going anywhere.”
Atwell said they intend to move their protest to the CARICOM Secretariat, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara tomorrow.
