The GRFU executives pose following their AGM and elections last Sunday.

WHILE Peter Green returned unopposed as president, John Lewis, the former senior vice-president has been replaced by president of the University of Guyana Students Society (UGSS) Joshua Griffith, when the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) held its elections on Sunday. Elwin Chase, the current coach of the national women’s rugby team was elected to serve as junior vice-president, replacing Alwin Etwah.
Petal Adams replaced long-serving member Terrence Grant as secretary and Keith White was named treasurer, after Roger Pereira declined reelection.
Ryan Dey (Assistant secretary/treasurer), Esan Griffith (Public Relations Officer) and Shane Grant-Stewart (Match secretary) are the other elected members while Daniel Anderson, Sabola Gray and Delroy Gordon are committee members.
Green urged the newly elected executives to work hard with the aim of developing the sport of rugby in Guyana.
Griffith, speaking on his selection of senior vice-president, added “Being the recently elected vice-president of the GRFU, I’m humbled, appreciative and thankful for all those who voted as well as put their trust in me to serve in this capacity”
The UGSS president noted, “One of the things we will be looking to do is to meet with the members of the clubs and to hear what the issues are and to see how best we can remedy those issues and also to have an overarching vision for the GRFU moving forward: a five-year plan, a ten-year plan, a vision statement, a strategic plan so that we take rugby to the next level locally, regionally and internationally.”
Meanwhile, the GRFU will kick off its season with the Banks DIH Sevens, set for October 4 at the National Park Rugby Field.
