WITH just under five days for the second edition of the Quick Shift drag racing event, the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) is ramping up preparations. The second instalment of the quarter-mile affair will feature some of the fastest straight line cars in the business strutting their stuff.
According to vice-president of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC), Shairaz Roshandin, fans and racers alike can expect a renewed feeling, come Sunday.
“Preparations are coming along perfectly well; we have made some adjustments where we will have a smoother flow of events (races). We have the parking facility for the racers better organised and patrons will see a lot more races in a shorter period of time.”
He noted that the use of the drag racing tree and lights will be in place and new racers should get to the track for 09:00hrs in order to familiarise themselves with the workings during the free practice period.
Qualifying begins at 10:00hrs where cars will be placed into groups based on how fast they can complete the quarter mile while the knock-out phase begins an hour later.
Meanwhile, the club has organised a meeting tomorrow at its building in Albert Street, Thomas Lands, for all drag racing competitors and those interested.
The meeting will commence at 17.00hrs and will focus on issues that drag-racers may have and also on the implementation of systems to ensure the smoother flow of drag-racing events.
Admission is $1 000 for adults, $500 for kids under 12 and vehicles are free.
Sponsors are GT&T, Valvoline, Fly Jamaica, South Land International Inc, Universal Communications Inc, Gran Sports, Rent-a-Tent, Ganesh Parts & General Store, Fanatix Designs, A&R Jiwanram Printery.
