THE Guyana Football Federation (GFF) yesterday wrapped up their two-day Women’s Football Conference, held at the Racquet Centre in Georgetown.
Under the guidance of the GFF’s Technical Director Claude Bolton, women, particularly administrators of the game, gathered at the event to highlight areas and ways on how to develop women’s football in Guyana.
At a simple opening ceremony, Chairman of the GFF’s Normalisation Committee Clinton Urling told the gathering that Women’s football is by far the most exciting as he reflected on the FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Canada that had record-breaking attendance and viewership.
Urling pointed out that the GFF, under the tenure of the Normalisation Committee, will focus heavily on Women’s football development and ensuring also that in the future, the ‘Lady Jags’, Guyana’s senior female national team, will see more local players coming to the forefront.
By virtue of playing at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2010 (Cancun Mexico), the country’s women’s national is the most successful unit.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Cipriani, Marketing Manager for Scotiabank, expressed delight for being one of the biggest partners of women’s football in Guyana and said that it was heartening to see the GFF placing emphasis on women’s football.
Cipriani confirmed Scotiabank’s continued support to women’s football in Guyana through the GFF.
Bolton, at the conclusion of the Conference, thanked the participants for their time and input towards women’s football development and encouraged all of them to impart the knowledge to women in their respective areas who love the sport.
