ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) – The long-awaited Trinidad and Tobago leg of the West Indies Cricket Board town-hall meetings will be staged today, with president Dave Cameron saying he is looking forward to the event.Previous attempts to arrange the town-hall meeting with the T&T Cricket Board were mired in confusion with neither side able to agree on a venue.
The WICB had proposed Queen’s Park Oval in the capital Port of Spain but the TTCB disagreed with that option and subsequently proposed the National Cricket Centre in Couva or the Chaguanas Town Hall.
Chaguanas, located in central Trinidad, will now host the event.
“We are looking forward to this town-hall meeting in the two-island republic. The meetings have been an excellent way to meet with our stakeholders up close and personal, and hear their concerns which most of us share,” Cameron said.
“These town-hall meetings have helped us, the leadership of West Indies cricket, to get the pulse of the people of the region on topics ranging from governance to cricket development, and most importantly, the performance of our flagship team.”
Cameron, as usual, will be joined by WICB vice-president Emmanuel Nanthan, for the town-hall meeting which will is expected to address issues of governance, finance, player issues and selection.
Denesh Ramdin’s axing as Test captain after just 15 months in charge is expected to come up for discussion.
Cameron said the meetings were important in helping the WICB to use the opinions of stakeholders to improve the cricket product.
“We face many important issues and it is important for the entire region to merge our efforts to make the cricket industry more viable than it has been in recent times,” he said.
Already, town-hall meetings have been held in Barbados, Dominica, St Lucia, Guyana, Jamaica and Antigua.
