THE Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has indicated that cables attached to the electrical panel of the company’s Diamond Well Station were removed by vandals resulting in a water service disruption which affected customers of Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
The vandalism was discovered on Saturday last during a scheduled inspection. Residents indicated that they saw no suspicious persons in the vicinity of the well station. A report has been filed with the Guyana Police Force.
GWI, in a statement yesterday, said the cables which were removed are vital to the electrical operations of the well station. Divisional Operations Manager, GWI, East Bank Demerara, Orion Dhanraj, indicated that ‘the removal of the cables could have resulted in an electrical fire which would have rendered the well station inoperable’.
The company is currently sourcing replacements for the cables and will be conducting repairs to the station in an effort to restore normal service to the Diamond Community.
The company apologises for any inconvenience caused and continues to ask for the patience of all customers affected by the service disruption.
