GABF/Forbes Burnham Memorial – Basketball Championship to bounce off on Saturday

 

EIGHT teams, drawn from Linden and Georgetown, will do battle to see who will walk away with Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF)-organised Forbes Burnham Memorial Basketball Championship and the tournament’s $100 000 first-place prize.
The tournament which bounces off on Saturday with a double-header at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, will be contested in a ‘win or go home’ format and features Ravens, Pacesetters, Colts and Guardians representing Georgetown while Bulls, Raiders, Amelia’s Ward Jets and Victory Valley Royals will represent Linden.
On the opening night, Plaisance Guardians go head-to-head against shooting guard Terron Welch and his Half Mile Bulls in the first of a planned double-header and Colts are down to tackle the Amelia’s Ward Jets.
The competition will then continue on Sunday, August 23 with another double-header; Retrieve Raiders clash with Pacesetters while Ravens and Royals are down to continue their strong rivalry in the sport.
The second-placed team will pocket $60 000 and third-placers $40 000. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top three clubs. Trophies will be presented to the Most Valuable Player, Best Uniformed Team and Most Disciplined Team.
