Woman remanded for possession of unlicensed gun, ammo and drugs

TWENTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD Lisolettela LaCruz of Lot 108 Tucville, Squatting Area, Georgetown was last Thursday busted with an unlicensed gun, ammunition and narcotics following a raid conducted in her home.

Represented by Attorney-at-law Paul Fung-a-Fat, the mother of one was yesterday arraigned before city magistrate Ann McLennan for having an unlicensed .25 pistol with 6 rounds of matching ammunition when she was not the holder of a firearm licence.

It was further alleged that La Cruz was found with two grammes of cannabis.

The Tucville woman denied all the allegations levelled against her. Additionally, her lawyer, applying for reasonable bail, told the court that his client operates a shop in the interior.

He said a situation of multiple occupancy refers in the case, and the offensive materials could have belonged to anyone.

But according to the prosecution facts, read by Police Officer Deniro Jones, police recovered the firearm in the presence of the accused; and her husband, who is employed with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) as a Lance Corporal based at Camp Ayanganna, while under caution by the police, admitted to ownership of the gun.

LaCruz was placed on $20,000 bail for possession of cannabis, and was refused bail for the gun and ammo charge. The matter was transferred to Magistrate Fabayo Azore for September 14.
