Heavy downpour last night and early this morning has caused inundation in the City and several areas in the country. The Government is closely monitoring the situation. Teams are on the ground to ensure a speedy drainage of excess water. President Granger early this morning summoned an emergency Cabinet meeting and activated the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) to assist in bring relief to those affected. The Guyana Defence Force has also been called out to assist in these efforts.
The Ministry of Social Protection has been mandated to ensure the safety of the elderly and vulnerable.
