GERON Williams struck wheat, a year’s supply to be exact, when he finished unchallenged in the annual CARICOM Day NAMILCO 12-race programme held on Monday. Williams dusted his challengers, leaving Michael Anthony (2nd) and Raul Leal (3rd) – the final two podium spots. The top six spots were rounded out by Akeem Wilkinson, Christopher Holder and Silvio Innis respectively. With his win Williams carts off one year’s supply of the title sponsor’s ‘Wheat-Up’ product as well as $30 000.
He also took top spots in the Category 1-3 event ahead of Anthony and Alanzo Greaves, and returned in the points race to beat off Greaves and Paul DeNobrega in that order.
President of the Roraima Bikers Club, the organising body for the event, indicated that 2016 is already being looked at from a different perspective. “What we would like to do over the next couple years and we have been discussing this is to make this a truly CARICOM Race and we are thinking seriously from next year to get CARICOM involved. This entails a lot of support from central government and we hope that this will be forthcoming shortly.”
Other winners in the event which is into its 12th year featured Greaves (win and out), Leal (Category 4), Keon Thomas (Mountain Bike), Keomo Logan (Juveniles 12-14), Kennard Lovell (Veteran Over-50), Warren McKay (Veteran Under-50), Simeon Chee (BMX 6-9), Jonathan Jagdeo (BMX 12-14) and Marica Dick (female).
