Man accused of chopping homeowner during break-in – claims he’s mentally ill

MARK Gullysite, 30, of Lot 46 Leopold and Cross Streets, who claimed he is mentally-ill, was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before City Magistrate Ann McLennan, charged with chopping a man after breaking into his house.Gullysite, also known as ‘Kwame Bruce’, denied the charge that alleged on Monday, at Brickdam, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Lesley De Cameron to cause him actual bodily harm.
The man then told the court that he has a mental certificate and he is from the “Gullyside where it’s life over death, better day.”
However, Police Prosecutor Corporal Deniro Jones explained that on the day in question the defendant jumped over a fence at the premises of the complainant and broke into his house.
Jones stated that De Cameron who was home at the time was chopped to his toe by Gullysite when he tried to ward him off.
The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant has no fixed place of abode and is a potential flight risk.
Bail was refused and the defendant was remanded to prison until July 13, when the matter is scheduled before Magistrate Fabayo Azore. (Clestine Juan)
