A 30-year-old farmer yesterday pleaded guilty to possession of three grams of marijuana, saying he uses the prohibited substance for medicinal purposes.Kwame Durant, who resides on the East Coast of Demerara, told the court that he uses the marijuana ‘to put his mind at ease’ because he suffered from a mental breakdown.
Durant, who was standing in the dock, appeared tense and began to march like a solider before proceeding to bark like a dog.
City Magistrate Ann McLennan, who presided over the matter in Court Two of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, sentenced Durant to three weeks community service at the Vigilance Police Station along with a $15,000 fine, or in default two weeks imprisonment.
