LED by a disciplined bowling effort from their bowlers, Berbice easily disposed of hosts Demerara by seven wickets, to retain the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) senior female Inter-county 50-over tournament which concluded yesterday at the Guyana Defence Force ground.Opting to field after winning the toss, Natasha Jaundoo (3-10) was the best bowler on show. She, however, got useful support from Stefanie Rodney (2-9), Sabrina Munroe (2-11) and Plaffiana Millington (1-12), to help Berbice bundle out their opponents for a paltry 67 in 41.2 overs.
Kavita Yadram (15) was the lone batter to have reached a double figure.
In reply, Berbice Katana Mentore and Melanie Henry set Berbice on course with an opening stand of 22 before Mentore was run-out for four. Henry soon followed, given out, caught and bowled, off Hasena Mohamed for 13 (1×4) after she shared in a second-wicket stand of 26 with Grimmond who went soon after for 13 (1×4).
Gangoo, who was named player-of-the-match, smashed three fours in an unbeaten 13 to see her team home, ending on 68-3 in 21.4 overs; Campbell was on four. Mohamed took 1 for 13.
After the game Berbice coach Andre Percival lauded his team for the fighting effort shown, adding that his team played with great passion and determination.
