CUBAN national Francisco Gonzales was yesterday fined $30,000 by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for overstaying his time in Guyana, where he was on vacation. Failure to pay the fine will result in his serving one month’s imprisonment.
The charge against Gonzales alleged that from January 6 to May 15 at Georgetown, he failed to comply with the conditions under which permission was granted for him to stay in Guyana from December 05 to January 06.
Gonzales pleaded guilty to the charge through an interpreter. He explained that a woman had employed him on a farm for the past few months, and he was stranded in Guyana because the woman had refused to pay him.
