TWO security guards attached to the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), who are alleged to have stolen cocaine that was seized during a drug bust in Diamond last week, were on Wednesday granted $350,000 bail each by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.Kevin Dicky, 29, of Lot 199 Lodge Housing Scheme and Keon Ambrose, 51, of Lot 954 Sophia, both pleaded not guilty to the simple larceny charge.

Particulars of the charge alleged that on April 16 at Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown, the duo stole eight parcels of a substance suspected to be cocaine worth $936,000, property of CANU.
According to Prosecutor Stephen Telford, the cocaine was taken to CANU Headquarters after they seized it from a house in Diamond, East Bank Demerara. The missing packets were among 428 other parcels.
However, following the discovery of the missing drug the officers questioned the security team. It was explained that when the CCTV camera footage was reviewed, it

allegedly showed Dickey leaving the guard hut and proceeding to the freezer where the cocaine was stored. The court heard that after he spent several minutes there he was seen moving away from the freezer carrying a bag. Dickey was seen conversing at the gate with Ambrose, who was in charge of security at the gate.
Ambrose opened the gate for him to exit the CANU compound with the alleged cocaine to an unknown location before returning to duty.
The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and the quantum of drugs involved. However $350,000 bail was granted to each accused by the Chief Magistrate. The matter was adjourned to May 7 for report.
