DONALD Mopp the proprietor of a Vulcanizing Shop at Tucville Squatting area is alleged to have stabbed 34-year old Winsel Roger Edwards to death on September 15th 2013.
The accused is reported to have told the Police that he did not know exactly what happened when the allegation of murder was put to him by Constable Eon Prince.
Prince also said that when he and other policemen visited the scene that day, the accused was sitting on a stool near to a table on which there was a bottle with a white substance, which he could not tell whether it was rum or water.
Earlier the constable had testified that the accused appeared to him to be under the influence of liquor and when asked why he came to that conclusion, witness answered – ‘because he smelt of alcohol’.
Constable Prince had also said that he had found on the premises a broken knife blade and a plastic blackhandle with a broken blade, which matched the blade that was found, the witness said in an answer to Prosecutrix Miss. Stacy Goodings.
And in answer to defence lawyer, Miss Deborah Kumar, the Policeman who collected the
Knife handle and blade as exhibits for analyst examination, said he could not remember seeing any substance looking as blood on the exhibits.
According to witness the exhibits were forwarded for matching finger prints.
Witness also agreed with defence counsel Miss Kumar that the finding of a knife blade on the premises should not be considered strange, since a blade of the kind could be considered as a tool in the trade.
A witness had also spoke about attending a post mortem and of seeing earlier a hole in the top abdomen of the deceased from which tissues were protruding.
The hearing continues today.
Madame Justice Roxanne George, is presiding at the trial.
