FORTY-one-year-old businessman, Harrinarine Persaud, an unlicensed firearm holder, appeared Wednesday before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore, charged with illegal possession of a .45 semi-automatic Smith and Wesson pistol and three live rounds of matching ammunition.Police Prosecutor Simone Payne detailed that, acting on a tip-off, a party of police ranks went to Persaud’s business premises at Arau Landing, Wenamu River, on April 4, and conducted a search in the presence of the businessman and others. The gun with the ammunition was found on a table.
Persaud was told of the offence, and he confessed that the gun belonged to him.
Persaud pleaded not guilty to the charges and submitted an application for bail through his attorney, Mark Thompson; but the
prosecutor objected to bail on ground of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
Bail was refused, and the matter has been transferred to the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court for June 15.
