(THE SPORTS XCHANGE) – Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau is hopeful point guard Derrick Rose will return to action this week. Rose had a meniscectomy on his right knee on February 27 and was expected to miss four to six weeks, but he has missed 20 games since having the procedure.
“Only he knows his body and that’s the big thing,” Thibodeau said before last Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. “So he’s got to continue to work through it and I trust him. When he says, he’s ready.”
In 46 games this season, Rose has averaged 18.4 points, 5.0 assists and 3.1 rebounds.
Rose told ESPN he and the Bulls were “taking it day by day, really day by day” in regard to his comeback.
The NBA suspended Golden State Warriors guard Shaun Livingston for one game without pay for hitting Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki in the groin, the league announced.
The incident occurred in the third quarter of the Warriors’ 123-110 victory over the Mavericks on Saturday.
Livingston served his suspension Sunday when the Warriors played at San Antonio.
Oklahoma City guard Andre Roberson and forward Nick Collison both took part in the shoot-around before the team’s game against the Houston Rockets.
However, coach Scott Brooks said neither was fully recovered from the severe sprained ankles that have sidelined them for seven and eight games respectively.
