PRESIDENT Donald Ramotar has written to the President of Singapore, Tony Tan Keng Yam, expressing Guyana’s “profound sadness” and “sincere condolences” on the passing of Singapore’s First Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew.Following is the text of President Ramotar’s message:

Excellency,
It is with profound sadness that I extend on behalf of the nation of Guyana our sincere condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Singapore for its great loss on the passing of the First Prime Minister of Singapore, H.E. Lee Kuan Yew.
H.E. Lee Kuan Yew has served his native land with distinction, dedication and commitment. The impact of his sterling contribution to the national development of Singapore is renowned. He will be remembered for his several accomplishments including his acclaimed transformative model for development which is highly recognised both nationally and internationally.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the people of the Republic of Singapore during this period of national mourning.
