A MAN who was accused of beating the mother of his nine-month-old baby was sentenced to prison for 21 days after he pleaded guilty yesterday when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.Rawl Willis, 21 years, on March 21 at Mabaruma, in the North West District, unlawfully assaulted Odella Ross, so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
According to Police Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru, on the day in question at about 1:00 pm, Ross was at home when the defendant arrived under the influence of alcohol and an argument ensued. Ross became annoyed and dealt the woman several cuffs and stomps about her body. The matter was then reported.
Ross, standing in the prisoner’s dock, told the court that he was sorry about his action. He explained that he was angry with his ‘child mother’ over her neglect of the baby who was sick, stating that she had refused to take the child to the doctor, and he was not thinking at the time.
