IF what former Attorney General, Charles Ramson, disclosed in his letter, “Public clarification needed about notorious Kaieteur News headline”, which was published in the Thursday’s edition of the Guyana Times Newspaper, relative to Kaieteur News’ Editor-in-Chief Adam Harris’s disclosure that he did not have anything to do with that controversial headline in Monday’s issue of the newspapers, then there are many questions to consider. In fact, Mr. Harris, according to Mr Ramson’s disclosure said that he was not even present at Babu John on Sunday, and it was the publisher, that is, Mr Glenn Lall who had been responsible for what was carried.
Certainly, his statement only leaves me to ponder, if this is a means by the publisher to vent his anger on the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) government by unprofessional journalism of a most dangerous kind.
But since he is publisher, it carries that someone who holds such a position should be au fait with the highest ideals of journalistic ethics, at least I hope. But, if this statement is true then it proves that Lall is using his newspaper to fabricate headlines and stories to continue his political attacks on the administration, defaming their most senior members.
Furthermore, there have been numerous cases on which the Kaieteur News has misrepresented and misinformed, often sinking to the level of distortion. This current article under focus is no different, as it was published with the objective of stirring up racial and political unrest in the country; and, given the fact that we are in the critical election period, this can have serious consequences on Guyana’s peaceful development as well as to the unity of its citizens.
