Construction worker jailed for attempted robbery, illegal gun and ammo

A 27-yr-old construction worker of Bent Street, Wortmanville, was yesterday sentenced to three years in prison by Magistrate Ann McLennan on attempted robbery, possession of a fireman and ammunition charges.Calvin Dover was found guilty on three charges, one of which alleged that on Friday, September 26 at Stabroek Market, Georgetown, being armed with a gun, he attempted to rob Dave Rodrigues.
The second charge said on the same day at Stabroek Market, Georgetown, he had in his possession 11 live rounds of ammunition, when he is not the holder of a firearm licence.
It is also alleged that on the same day at Stabroek Market, he had in his possession, a revolver when he is not licensed to carry a weapon.
The convict was represented by Attorney-at-law, Adrian Thompson, who asked for leniency for his client, stating that it is the first time that Dover was found guilty.
Magistrate McLennan considered the time Dover spent in prison during his trial and also the seriousness and prevalence of the offence before handing down the sentence.
