SCORES of spectators flocked the Pouderoyen Tarmac Saturday night to witness the start of the Guinness Greatest of the Street ‘West Side’ Edition ans they were entertained by the teams who battled to see who will be made of more and pocket the $300 000 first-place prize. After the teams were met by Guinness Brand Manager Lee Baptiste and Regional Chairman Julius Faerber who gave the tournament a ceremonial kick-off, Brothers United recorded the first victory of the competition when they defeated Golden Stars 1-0, thanks to Donford Williams’ 19th minute strike.

In the second game of the night, De Kinderen Village picked up a comfortable 4-0 win over Vergenoegen All-Stars with goals from Darrel Alexis (7th), Stephon Dickson (13th), Ulric Bourne (16th) and an own goal in the 19th minute.
Thanks to an own goal just 5 minutes into the contest and a 24th minute on-target shot by Noel Walker, Patentia Street Ballers eased to a 2-0 win over Raiders.
The Showtime/Uitvlugt was by far the night’s most entertaining game with Showtime needing penalty kicks to overcome Uitvlugt 3-2.
Former National player Owen McGarrell put Uitvlugt back in the game in the 11th minute after Delon Layne had put Showtime in front in the 7th minute.
Toine Lopes sent Showtime into the lead when he scored from the penalty spot and then Kaide King made it 2-0 after Uitvlugt missed their first kick, but Colin Benjamin scored in their second attempt to put the score 2-1.
After Showtime missed the goal that would have handed them the win, Uitvlugt scored (2-2) and forced the game to sudden death but they still held on for the win (3-2).
Meanwhile, the home-based team (Pouderoyen Showstoppers) got off to a good start in the tournament, defeating West Side Ballers 2-0 with Dexroy Adams scoring both goals (6th, 18th).
Majee Street picked up a 2-0 win over Demerara Speedboat through goals from Morvin Henry (2nd) and Kerron Schmidt (3rd) and Jetty got a victory after Young Warriors were a ‘no-show’ and as such will now be replaced in the tournament by the Police Football Club.
Rondel Hutson netted a double (7th, 19th) and Jeffrey Perreira in the 24th minute to propel Den Amstel FC to a 3-0 over Admiral United.
Matches continue tomorrow at the same venue and another exciting night is expected.
