AN unidentified woman was, late last night, pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital following an accident at Little Diamond at about 6:00pm, which also left several others injured.

Reports reaching this publication are that a Route 42 ‘Pitbull’ bus, BSS 9471, was at top gear heading down the East Bank Highway towards Georgetown when, upon approaching Little Diamond, another vehicle (no registration number given) attempted to turn onto the main road from a corner, resulting in the driver of BSS 9471, identified as 28-year-old Travis David of Agricola, resorting to swerving so as to avoid a possible collision because he could not bring his vehicle to a halt.

This manoeuvre caused the vehicle to skid on two wheels and crash into a utility pole dissecting the two lanes of traffic.

Medical response arrived on the scene at about 6:20pm, one medical personnel who wished to remain anonymous said. He also revealed that prior to his arrival, a “pick-up” that arrived on the scene rushed the now dead woman and another female who had been injured to the Diamond Hospital. The driver, the conductor and a passenger were then transported by ambulance to the same hospital.

Conflicting reports, however, indicate that some seven other persons were injured in the crash. An attempt to confirm this proved futile, as neither medical officers nor police hinted at an exact figure.

Travis David’s father, who identified himself as Mr. David, said he received a call informing him that his son had been involved in an accident at about 6pm. “I don’t know anything that happened… I received the call saying that he was in an accident, and I came down here,” Mr David said.

While Travis’s condition has been listed as stable, as was the condition of others involved in the accident, he was reported to have sustained a fractured or possibly broken leg, which was being examined by doctors up until late last evening.

A sorrowful man who spoke to this newspaper explained that his wife, Joycelyn Barker, was also a passenger in the bus that was involved in the accident. He said she had earlier spoken to him via telephone and had informed him that she was on her way home.
However, just after 6:00pm, he received another telephone call requesting him to come to the hospital, since his wife had been involved in an accident and was nursing injuries. However, he told reporters that she was in “stable condition”.

As tension mounted in the aftermath of the crash, the dead woman’s husband was identified as he screamed at the top of his lungs in mourning for his wife. His decision not to communicate with the media resulted in his deceased wife’s identity and address not being confirmed to the media.

The grieving husband wandered about hopelessly in the hospital’s lobby before assuming a position at the corner where two walls met, and literally banged his head against the robust concrete structure.

Unconfirmed reports are that two of the four injured had been secretly escorted away by police after their condition had been monitored and deemed stable enough for discharge.
