THE home of a young Lethem mother and her six children was yesterday set on fire by heavy lightning in the Lethem area. 

Two of her children, who were reportedly home alone when the fire started, were taken to the hospital by public-spirited citizens so they could receive medical attention.

Persons in the community rendered as much assistance as they could to quickly douse the flames and save whatever belongings they could of the young mother and her family.
Minister of Education, Ms Priya Manickchand and Foreign Affairs Minister, Ms Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, who were both in the area at the time, paid a visit to the scene of the fire, and offered to provide whatever assistance they could to help the family return to normalcy as quickly as possible.
