Stag Beer/EBFA Div. 1 League – RD 2

Warriors edge Timehri 2-1, Herstelling and Diamond draw

COMPETING at the Grove Playfield last Sunday, Kuru Kururu Warriors continued their fine form in the second round of the Stag Beer-sponsored East Bank Football Association (EBFA) division-one league with a 2-1 win over the high-ranking Timehri Panthers.

Herstelling Raiders came from behind to hold Diamond United to a 1-1 draw in the day’s other encounter as the league draws to an end. Kazeem Caines got on the score sheets for Herstelling in the 70th minute to draw even, Diamond had taken the lead in the 56th minute through a Tybert Muir goal.

The Warriors were in fine form yet again as they powered to their sixth win of the season, led by the consistent Cordell Johnson with a double. Timehri Panthers took the early lead when their most prolific scorer Collis Johnson hit the network in the 4th minute.

It took some time for the Warriors to find their footing but when they did, the Panthers were more or less a tamed unit. Johnson fired in the equaliser one minute to halftime and he did not wait too late to seal up full points. The winning goal was fired in the 52nd minute, compliments of captain Johnson.

Meanwhile, the EBFA only received the Referees Report on Sunday in relation to the abandoned game between Agricola Red Triangle and Kuru Kururu Warriors. The Executive will meet later this week to deliberate on the report before deciding the fate of the players at the centre of the fracas, Agricola’s Gordon Grant and Joseph Walker of the Warriors.

When the game unceremoniously ended in the 60th minute on Sunday, September 21, Agricola had come from a 2-1 deficit to be leading 3-2.
