Griffith and Sattaur hit half-centuries as DCC overpower Rest XI
INDEBTED to two half-centuries from openers Trevon Griffith and Brian Sattaur, the Christopher Barnwell-led Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) lineup overpowered a Robin Bacchus-led Rest Team by 88 runs in a specially-organised T20 clash at the DCC ground last Sunday night. The contest was organised to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Club’s head coach Garvin Nedd. Winning the toss and deciding to take first strike in the presence of a mammoth crowd, DCC accrued 271 for 6 from their 20 overs.
The 23-year-old Griffith, who last week scored his maiden Inter-county ton in the Guyana Cricket Board senior Inter-county tournament, led the way with a belligerent 86 (6×6, 4×4) while Sattaur slammed seven sixes and four fours in his 59, as the duo posted in excess of 100 for the first wicket.
Barnwell also chipped in with the bat, hitting five fours and two sixes in his robust 40, as Teralph Scipio led the Rest Team’s bowling with 3 for 48, before they closed their innings on 183 for 8 after 18 overs, in reply.
Dexter ‘Skip’ Williams took the attack to the DCC bowlers in retaliation of the runs struck off him when the home team batted, by hitting six fours and one six in his topscore of 43 for the Rest Team, before he was the last wicket to fall, caught and bowled by Griffith.
Bacchus scored 36 (6×4), Kwame Crosse 31 (3×4, 1×6) and Shemroy Barrington and Kemo Paul 18 each for the Rest Team who found the task of scoring 272 to win, a huge one to accomplish as Antonell Atwell took 2 for 24, while Griffith and Travis Dowlin each took 2 for 25..
