… T20 cricket competition launched

THE POMEROON Sports Committee donated balls to eight cricket clubs in the Upper and Lower Pomeroon last Monday at Xenon Hotel Boardroom in Charity, prior to the launching of the Norbert Alphonso and Hassan Rahim Memorial T20 Cricket Competition. According to a press release, the balls were purchased for the clubs using the $50 000 grant the Pomeroon Area Committee received from the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) in July this year.
The GCB started a countrywide outreach programme, donating money and necessary materials to the various regions in an effort to develop cricket in the areas and each of the eight Area Committees in Essequibo received $50 000 while similar donations were made in Berbice and Linden.
The clubs that received balls from the Upper Pomeroon area were: Eagles Sports Club, Rising Sun Sports Club and Jack-Low Sports Club and from the Lower Pomeroon area were Pomeroon Oil Mill from Charity, Teneze Ferme Sports Club, Friendship Sports Club, Super Kings Friendship Sports Club and Scorpion Sports Club.
The distribution was made at the Pomeroon Sports Committee Executive meeting where the Norbert Alphonso and Hassan Rahim Memorial T20 cricket competition was officially launched and will see the eight clubs participate in the competition which will commence tomorrow.
