Developments in the generation capacity in the Demerara/Berbice Integrated System

OPERATIONS at the GuySuCo-Skeldon facility were restored on Wednesday evening following the resolution of an industrial strike action. As a result, functioning of the Co-gen facility has been gradually restored and increasing levels of generating capacity made available to the GPL grid. It is expected that the maximum available capacity from Skeldon will be available prior to the evening peak demand.
Meanwhile, the load shedding guide previously instituted remains in effect until Friday, September 26, 2014. The replacement component for the turbocharger of the No. 3 diesel generator at Kingston 2 was slated to arrive last evening, and arrangements for its immediate installation are in place; this machine is expected to be available by midnight last night, reducing the level of load shedding contained in the guide. Modifications to the guide will be published early today, GPL said.
The No. 1 Diesel Generator at the Kingston 1 Plant, which is undergoing planned major overhaul remains on schedule to return to service on Sunday, September 28.
Customers are therefore reminded to check the press, visit our website at www.gplinc.com or visit GPL’s Facebook page at “GPL Inc’ for the load shedding guide.
GPL regrets any inconvenience this may cause and seeks your patience while we work to restore reliable power.
