Kings blank Ann’s Grove as Buxton United and Mahaica play to draw
… Referees fail to show for Saturday’s fixture
POINTS leaders Victoria Kings maintained their supremacy in this year’s East Demerara Football Association (EDFA)-organised, Ansa McAl’s Stag Beer-sponsored first division league, when they defeated Ann’s Grove in their latest round of matches last Sunday.Playing on their home ground, Victoria Kings, after seeing Buxton United and Mahaica play to a nil-all draw, kept a clean sheet with their 2-0 victory over Ann’s Grove, thanks to goals from Winston Pompey (18th minute) and Aubrey Gibson in the 36th minute.
However, on a sad and disappointing note for football in that area, the officials were a no-show for Saturday’s lone fixture that was scheduled to be played at the Buxton Community Centre ground, where Buxton Stars and Sparta were set to do battle.
According to an official of the EDFA, the game will be replayed at a later date, even as the action continues on Sunday with another double-header at the Buxton Community Centre ground, involving both home teams who will be facing different opponents.
From 14:00hrs, Buxton Stars will oppose Golden Stars in the first encounter, followed by the feature matchup which kicks off at 16:00hrs and pits Buxton United against Beterverwagting Triumph United (BVTU). (Calvin Roberts)
