I READ the Kaieteur News article under the caption “GFC says Bai Shan Lin did no logging at Kwebanna in 2014, but photo evidence rubbishes GFC claims” (KN Wed, Aug 20, 2014).

The Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC), the regulator of Guyana’s state forest estate, made it very clear that no logging is taking place at Kwebanna by Bai Shan Lin for 2014, and that the photographs of logs taken by KN are logs that were harvested in 2013.

This tells John Public that the photo evidence of KN is totally misleading, and rubbishes the KN’s own unfounded and mischievous claims that logging activities are taking place at Kwebanna.

But what is important to note as well is the stark hypocrisy of the hullabaloo over log exportation by Bai Shan Lin carried out by the KN, SN and the so-called Forest Doctor, Dr. Janet Bulkan, since it is known that Yacoob Ally, the uncle of Bulkan, is a shareholder of the joint venture arrangements between Bai Shan Lin and Kwebanna Wood Products.
In this regard, it is interesting to know what the views of this so-called forest expert on this joint venture arrangement are, because she seems to have absolutely nothing to do in Florida but to write hogwash about the management of Guyana’s forest sector, to which she is a stranger.

Simply put, can Bulkan identify a Wamara tree in the forest at Region 10? Or as the “forest expert” she claims to be, can she effectively solve the problems of Guyana’s small-scale loggers?

In my view, if Janette Bulkan is a genuine expert on forest matters, she would have humbly made herself available to apply her expertise in Guyana’s forest Sector. But no, Bulkan, like the KN, SN and the political opposition, always wages an anti-Government agenda, particularly on forest matters, under the pretext of her having forestry expertise; which she is currently doing in relation to Bai Shan Lin’s logging activities, along with the Opposition sections of the media to bamboozle John Public.

And the so-called forest expert does this by twisting the factual information put out on the forestry sector by the GFC; and what she is doing is being followed by the Opposition sections of the media.

Finally, looking at KN’s photographs of logs on the ground is not technically factual evidence of Guyana’s forest assessments. What the photographs represent is KN’s mischievous, misleading and erroneous information about Bai Shan Lin’s logging activities and matters that pertain to Guyana’s forest sector, just to fool the reading public.
