Education Month to be launched on Sunday

THE THEME for Education Month 2014: “Literature by Grade 4 Through Consistent Home, School and Community Involvement” centres on the need to bring awareness to parents, community members, and social and religious organisations of the importance of coming together to help each child become literate by the time he or she graduates from Grade Four.

This was revealed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Education.

Education Month will be launched on Sunday, August 31st, with an inter-faith church service in Region Seven (Cuyuni/Mazaruni), followed by observances which would be held across every administrative region. Parents, guardians, children, educators, and the business community are expected to participate in the proceedings.

The Education Ministry’s release has said that activities for Education Month 2014 would include a number of face-the–community meetings; award ceremonies honouring both teachers and students; and prayer services.

Additionally, there would be a “Give A Book Day” which would include an invitation for all of Guyana to read at a specific time and on a specific day. Besides, there would be Spelling B Competitions, Debating Competitions, Education Month Rally, launching of the Revised Literacy Programme, International Literacy Day Essay Competition, and workshops for teachers, among other activities.
