–when trailer slips into trench at Uitvlugt
MORE than thirty cane harvesters reportedly had a narrow brush with death last Saturday morning when a trailer in which they were travelling became partly submerged in a canal at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, having slid off a bridge on which it was crossing near the estate compound.Sources relate that the pin connecting the trailer to a tractor pulling it broke and caused the mishap. Most of the cane harvesters sustained severe bruises as a result of the incident, but four were badly injured and had to be taken to the nearby Lenora Cottage Hospital, where they were treated and later sent home.
General Secretary of the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU), Mr Seepaul Narine, indicating that he had received reports on the accident, related that while no one was badly injured, he has advised that all seek medical attention.
