THE DEMERARA Cricket Board (DCB) yesterday commenced its one-week Elite Youth Summer Camp which is being sponsored by W&H Rambarran Marine, Distributor of Mariner outboard engines, at the Lance Gibbs Street-based Demerara Cricket Club (DCC).
Day one of the camp got off with the Under-15 boys, engaged in an Introduction to Scoring session which was done by regional scorer Calvin Roberts, after which, Garvin Nedd and Clive Grimmond carried the boys through specific warm-up sessions and batting drills, while the same programme with more in-depth discussion was done with the Under-17 boys in the afternoon.
The camp continues today and Matthew Kissoon will deliver a presentation on the Relevant Laws of the Game, followed by warm-up sessions and bowling drills to be done by the coaches.
Throughout the camp the morning sessions will run from 09:00hrs to 12:00hrs for the Under-15 players while the afternoon sessions from 13:00hrs to 16:00hrs will cater for the Under-17s.
These sessions are spearheaded by Nedd, Demerara’s head coach who is ably supported by Grimmond, even as the Territorial Development Officer (TDO) within the Guyana Cricket Board, Colin Stuart oversees the camp.
The aim of the camp is to challenge, improve and develop the younger cricketers’ ability, widen their knowledge of the game, and make them more appreciative of it, hence the DCB is encouraging more youths, both males and females to join the camp.
To be eligible for the U-15, players have to be born on or after September 1, 2000 and for the U-17, on or after September 1, 1998. Those interested can contact the DCB office on 223-5479 or Garvin Nedd on 617-9381, while the DCB is grateful to have W&H Rambarran Marine, Distributor of Mariner outboard engines on board as a sponsor of such a prestigious development.
