After bursting on the scene over a year ago, Slingerz Football Club built a reputation for themselves and easily became one of the top clubs in Guyana with only Alpha United being evidently better.

The West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) champion club out gunned the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 2 – 1 at the Guyana National Stadium to win the coveted trophy at the inaugural Guyana Festival.

Thousands of Guyanese flocked the premier venue to celebrate the event but for Slingerz FC, it was more than just a win since the GDF team has easily grown to become one of their arch rivals on the pitch.

Slingerz FC would see both of their goals coming from Dominic Garnett who first opened his account in the 26th minute and then scored what would be the eventual winner in the 40th minute.

Delwyn Fraser’s goal in the 57th minute didn’t pay off as Slingerz’s rock solid defence made sure that the army men would go home empty handed.
