East Division make it four straight wins
TORONTO – East Division made it four years in a row when they emerged winners of the President’s Cup in the annual 20-over softball game, played as part of the annual Family Day, staged by the Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) at the Ashtonbee ground in Scarborough last Saturday.Watched by a fair-sized crowd, which included several children of executives, members and players of the OSCL, East Division made light work of their West Division counterparts, defeating their opponents by five wickets.
East Division’s victory was engineered by a superb unbeaten even half-century from veteran Jai Singh whose knock was decorated by four massive sixes and two fours as his side reached 92 for five in 17 overs after dismissing West Division for 88 in 17.2 overs. Sukhdeo supported with 14 while there were two wickets each for FrankParsram and Richard Suknandan.
Earlier, West Division could only muster 88 after taking first strike with only Morrison Edwards (20) providing any impetus to the innings.
For East, Ashok Ramjas took three for five, Kevn Boodram two for 15 and Anand Balwant two for five.
Jai Singh and Edwards were awarded prizes for being the Most Valuable Players for the East and West respectively.
Treasurer of the OSCL Vish Jadunauth was once again the successful manager and was full of praise for the performance of his charges.
OSCL president Albert Ramcharran and vice-president Terry Mathura were also among the executives who witnessed the day’s proceedings which also featured the 10/10 final between Dant and Rems. Popular proprietor of Trophy Stall (Guyana) Ramesh Sunich, was also in attendance and has pledged his assistance to the OSCL in the upcoming season. He also handed over the winning trophy.
Fly Jamaica Airlines also played a big role in sponsoring t-shirts for the players and kids who participated in the day’s programm e while Twilite and Starlite provided the same for the executives of the OSCL.
Not to be outdone was Norman Sue Bakery, who through treasurer Kim Sue, was responsible for the preparation of the tasty snacks.
