GRRC to open Guyana Book Festival 2014 today

THE Georgetown Reading and Research Centre (GRRC) Bookland on Woolford Avenue and Albert Street, Georgetown, is staging its Guyana Book festival from today to September 3, 2014.

According to GRRC Bookland founder and director, Rupert Hopkinson, there is no greater sale in the organisation’s 17-year history.

Bookland’s new facility has several tents, while its garden and park offers additional space for social activities.

Hopkinson added that this year, Bookland will bring special offers to attract parents and children since schools will be closed but more particularly to pursue its mission of “getting books in every household”.

He said that every buyer at the sale is entitled to a free book, with at least three to 20 books free to those who purchase more than $1000 worth of books.

Hopkinson stated that during the event more than 100,000 books will be on sale with 20% to 60% off regular prices and Bookland will give away 10,000 books to assist in the promotion of literacy and so many books will be sold for $100 to $300 with a selection of 8,000.

For the very first time in its 17-year existence Bookland will cater for more than the usual customer, as participants will be free to picnic and stage activities in the garden and park area for their families, free of charge.
