THE police have installed two forty-foot traffic lane columns on the Agricola Public Road as another measure to bring about a more orderly flow of traffic on the East Bank Public Road by blocking two former U-turn points. This initiative will allow the traffic to flow at a reasonable pace and prevent vehicles at Agricola from making U-turns heading towards Georgetown. Drivers will now have to do their turning around at Houston or at Eccles.
Residents of Agricola told this publication that the installation of the columns is a good initiative by the police and it will make the traffic flow smoother. They said that it will also help them get to work early and their children would reach to school on time.
Last week the Police ‘A’ Division Traffic Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works, acted decisively to end the pervasive congestion and lawlessness among minibus operators in the Stabroek Market area by placing concrete columns to demarcate every bus route.

The two agencies have placed four 40-foot concrete columns in front of the Stabroek Market clock, in the parking tarmac used by the Routes 41, 45 and 46 minibuses to regulate their movement while in the park, and to ease the congestion and chaos.

Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle at the location after the newly installed parking arrangements, ‘A’ Division Traffic Officer Superintendent Calvin Brutus said that the move was made after the police had seen the need to bring some amount of sanity to the Stabroek Market area.
