4TH DIGICEL INTER-SECONDARY SCHOOL FOOTBALL C’SHIPS : Trotz and Barrow hit double as Chase ‘tutors’ Tutorial : … Legall’s hat-trick powers ERSS past Marian

THANKS to double strikes from Andre Trotz and Shamar Barrow, Chase Academy were able to tutor Tutorial High with an 8-0 defeat, when action in the fourth annual Digicel Inter-Secondary School Football Championships continued yesterday afternoon.

Also in winners’ row were East Ruimveldt Secondary (ERSS), who, through a Romell Legall hat-trick, defeated Marian Academy 6-1 at the Police Sports Club, ground Eve Leary, while at the Beterverwagting (BV) Community Centre ground, Buxton Secondary blanked Hope Secondary 2-0.
Playing at the Ministry of Education ground, Chase started positively with Kareem Knights winding his way down the right of Tutorial’s half and was brought down, with the ensuing free kick being parried for a corner by Tutorial custodian Kelly Blue in the fourth minute.
At the other end of the field, Tutorial’s David Coates, who was kept out of the game by his opponent’s defensive lineup, made a spirited run deep inside Chase’s box, but his cross was picked off in mid-air by Amanackie Forde, who had a relatively easy afternoon between the uprights for his side after that.
In bizarre fashion, Chase scored their opening goal when a long ball from Trotz that was intended for Barrow, who was unmarked on the last post, went through the hands of Blue and nestled its way into the back of the net in the 10th minute.
Fifteen minutes later and it was 2-0 when Isaiah Reddy sent a gem of a pass to an unmarked Trotz, who used his speed and ball control to good effect, avoiding several tackles from his opponents to find a lurking Daniel Ross on the last post, who finished with a clinical header.
Coates tried to negate the lead, but his shot to Chase’s goal was met by the safe hands of Forde, who watched as another long range shot, this time from the middle off the boot of David Britton, sailed over the head of Blue in the 34th minute to make it 3-0, even as Trotz completed his brace on the stroke of halftime, which Chase took with a comfortable 4-0 lead.
Seven minutes into the second half, Reddy, who was having a wonderful afternoon at midfield for Chase, made it 5-0, before Barrow used his superiority and size to good advantage, tucking home his brace in the space of five minutes (56th and 61st) to give Chase a 7-0 advantage.
Tutorial had two clear-cut chances to score off free-kicks, but they were wasted by Tariq Nelson, whose shots were sent high over the bar on both occasions, before they put paid to their own demise in the 74st minute, when an own goal from a Daniel Ross’ cross, handed Chase the eighth and final goal.
At Eve Leary, Legall found the back of the net in the 80th, 84th and 86th minutes of play and, backed by a double from Troy Carrington who scored in the 11th and 39th minute and Alton Benn’s solitary strike scored in the 47th minute, gave ERSS their 6-1 win over Marian Academy’s whose lone goal was scored by Damani Thomas.
At BV, Ato August (54th) and Dillon Wright (68th) were the players responsible for Buxton Secondary’s goals in their 2-0 win over Hope Secondary, while at Den Amstel, St John’s Secondary blanked Leonora Vocational 6-0, through goals from Rolex Henry (11th), Cordell Walcott (19th), Trevor Clarke (30th), Stephon Bentick (62nd), own goal (68th) and Atambo Henry (75th).
At the Wisburg ground in Linden, New Silver City Secondary came away with a 3-2 penalty kicks victory over Harmony Secondary, following a 1-1 draw after Kendolph Lewis opened the scoring for the victors in the 27th minute, a goal that was nullified by Denzil Fordyce’53rd minute strike for Harmony.
At the Mahaicony Community Centre ground, Bush Lot Secondary defeated the home team 5-1, with Adrian Price (11th and 20th), Marlon Nicholson (33rd and 64th) and Royal Shultz 28th being the players responsible for Bush Lot’s goals, while Dawnell London scored Mahaicony’s consolation goal in the 67th minute.
The action will continue today with four matches at various venues from 15:30hrs, with Diamond Secondary taking on Institute of Professional Education at Grove, Berbice High facing Skeldon Secondary at Skeldon, Brickdam Secondary opposing Central High at Ministry of Education and St Joseph High meeting Bishops’ High at the Georgetown Football Club ground.
