14th annual P&P Insurance Brokers cycle programme on Saturday

THE 14th edition of the P&P Insurance Brokers and Consultants Limited 11-race cycle programme will be staged on Saturday around the inner circuit of the National Park beginning at 09:00hrs.

The event, which is being organised by national cycle coach Hassan Mohamed, will see schoolboys and novices battle for top honours in the feature 35-lap race which is expected to be a thriller, especially in the absence of the in-form Alanzo Greaves and Geron Williams who are both in the United States of America, training and competing.
This leaves the event wide open, but the locally based cyclists will be trying desperately to get past defending champion of the event, Paul DeNobrega who is in good nick at the moment.
DeNobrega, who returned one hour 21 minutes .09 seconds in winning last year, will have to stave off the challenges of Marlon `Fishy’ Williams, Warren McKay, Michael Anthony, Orville Hinds who is so far enjoying a good 2014 season, veterans Stephen Fernandes, Raymond Newton, Linden Blackman, Junior Niles and Kennard Lovell who can all spring surprises.
Apart from the feature event, there will also be races for juveniles, veterans, BMX boys and girls, mountain bikers and upright cyclists.
The juveniles will contest a 10-lap race for which Jevan Crawford is the defending champ;ion. He will have a stern test from DeNobrega who is also a juvenile as well as Berbice’s Neil Reece.
Crawford’s time for the event last year is 23 minutes .07 seconds.
Niles who won the five-lap race for veterans under 50 years of age last year is expected to face stiff competition from Blackman, Fernandes, Newton and Lovell who are all in good form at the moment.
Niles’ time for the event last year is 12 minutes 23 seconds.
The defending champion for the BMX boys 12-14 years three-lap event is Romelo Crawford who returned 11 minutes 53 seconds last year, while the defending champion for the mountain bikers’ five-lap affair is Steffon Husbands.
Apart from these events, there will also be a five-lap race for veterans over 50 years of age, another five-lap race for veterans over 60 years of age as well as three-lap races for BMX boys and girls nine to twelve years old and a BMX race for boys and girls six to nine years old.
A representative of the sponsor will be on hand to witness the proceedings and assist with the presentation of prizes to the respective winners.
