IN an effort to foster better relations between the police and the community, a group of ranks last Friday came together and made their personal donations of foodstuff, pampers and toys to the Red Cross Convalescent Home at D’urban Backlands.

On hand for the presentation was Inspector Debra Small, who was representing Deputy Superintendent Kalie Parsram. She said that they had initiated a feeding programme for the children of the Home.
Inspector Debra added that funds were raised among themselves and they made the purchase of the needed articles and presented them to the staff in the presence of the children last Friday morning.
She stated that Sub-Division No. 2 which comprises of several police stations including East La Penitence, Ruimveldt and North Ruimveldt pooled their resources to make the event possible.
Small said that it is their first donation to the Red Cross Convalescent Home but it would certainly not be the last. They have been to other areas such as Agricola and Albouystown where they participated in community work and a similar feeding programme.
She noted that such programmes are geared towards enhancing better relations between the police and the community and they will strive to continue such activities.
Meanwhile, Caregiver of the Red Cross Convalescent Home for Children, Joan Stephens-Deveaux told this publication that she is pleased with the assistance and it will go a long way in feeding the 28 children at the Home.
These children, she said, include babies and others up to eight-years-old. The Home is a non-governmental organisation that functions solely on donations and fundraising activities.
