DELBERT Leitch, 58, a self-employed man (no address given) was ordered to post $50,000 bail on Monday, when he appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, charged with unlawful possession of forged currency. He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on May 8, at Longden and America Streets, in Georgetown, without lawful cause he had five forged $1,000 bills, knowing them to be forgeries.
Assistant Superintendant of Police, Deneshwers Maindranaught, prosecuting, said ranks, acting on information, carried out a search on the defendant and found five counterfeit $1,000 among other bills.
The defendant was represented by attorney-at-law, Ms. Omeyana Hamilton, who requested reasonable bail for him.
The lawyer told the court that Leitch was given US$50 and went to convert them but, amongst the money he received, five of the notes were forged.
The case was, subsequently, postponed to June 12.
