THE Region Two Administration plans celebrating the country’s 48th Independence Anniversary with a colourful cultural show and flag-raising ceremony.
The ceremonial hoisting of the Golden Arrowhead, the region says in a release, will be held at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground at the stroke of midnight, on the eve of May 26.
Members of the Regional Commemorative Committee reportedly met Tuesday, and have started preparations for the historic occasion.
According to the Committee, the programme will begin at 20:00 hrs on May 25 with a grand cultural show, followed by the usual addresses by Region Two Chairman, Mr. Parmanand Persaud, and a minister of the government.
And just before the hoisting of the flag, there will be the usual prayers by representatives of the three main religious bodies, namely, the Christian, Muslim and Hindu faiths.
The event is expected to attract a large gathering as per normal. (Rajendra Prabhulall in Essequibo)
