George hits home double for Retrieve Unknown
DARREL George scored a double in the 6th and 17th minutes of play to guide Retrieve Unknown to last night’s quarterfinals, following their 3-0 win over Ituni on the third night of action in this year’s Banks DIH/Linden Guinness ‘Greatest of De Streets’ Futsal football competition last Thursday night.Kennard Simon scored the other goal for the victorious Retrieve Unknown lineup, who will be looking to advance to tonight’s final, providing they had pulled off back-to-back wins last night, which saw the hosting of the semifinals along with the quarterfinals.
In the first game, Cherokee Park needled Blueberry Hill 1-0, thanks to Dwayne Hamilton’s 8th minute strike, before Minibus, who got goals from Troy Nelson (8th) and Godfrey Johnson (16th), defeated Unity 2-1, with Dexter Scotland scoring the first goal of the contest in the 4th minute for Unity.
The Amazings also got past Constabulary 1-0 through a Jermaine Fordyce 8th minute strike, following which there was the Guinness half-time break after Retrieve Unknown had disposed of Ituni.
When play resumed, Scheme gave One Mile/Half Mile their marching orders from the tournament, courtesy of Andre Chester’s lone goal in the 8th minute, even as Eagles through goals from Yohan Simon (6th) and Rena Carter 13th, defeated Attackers 2-0.
Speightland also found themselves in winners’ row by one goal, as they edged Bloomersdale Russians in their matchup which was the penultimate one of the night, having seen Calvin Allicock findg the back of the net in the 7th minute.
In the final game, Silver Bullets fired two live rounds to Star Boyz’ target and struck, thanks to Colwin Drakes (14th) and Robin Adams (22nd) after Jermaine Grandison had placed Star Boyz in the lead, when he fired the first warning in the 10th minute to Silver Bullets’ lineup.
At stake in the competition is $400 000, one year’s bragging rights and a place in the national playoffs, which will see the winner compete in the Caribbean ‘Guinness Greatest of De Streets’ tournament that is set for Trinidad and Tobago, where a whopping US$4 000 is up for grabs. (Calvin Roberts)
